[WWI] U.S. Fokker D.VIII.

I seem to recall there were a number of them flown in the USA; here’s one at McCook being tested to destruction. By coincidence I just saw this photo this AM in the 08/1990 issue of WWI Aero:

I recall people saying that the aircraft did not have U.S. insignias painted on top of the wings.  How do we know?
