[WWI] Darkening bamboo struts

Thanks for all the suggestions, it sounds like I can do more or less what I feel like! Most thinned paint/ink/water colour seem to work.

I plan to make struts from bamboo for strength, but they were dark, so I will need to stain them somehow, any ideas for an easy way of staining them.
Or I could make them easily from mahogany model ship deck-planking, that might be strong enough anyway, it's what I used to do.
Citadel Seraphim Sepia. It's an ink, dilutes with water, sinks into wood with no problem.
