There are outside influences!! This is my 12th winter in northern France and I've seen more snow in the last three weeks than I've seen in the rest of my time here put together.
It's not that deep - 3 or 4 inches - but we're not used to it and don't have the wherewithall to cope with it. Step or drive on it and what is beneath turns from pretty fluffy stuff to solid ice. So, within a very short time, roads are impassable. Road grit is in short supply and I don't think we have any snow blowers or ploughs. Best I've seen is local farmers scraping the roads with front-end loaders. Out terrain is fairly hilly, too.
PLUS a safety valve on our central heating system blew out, so we and the tenants in our cottages have no heating! Our plumber is overjoyed at the amount of burst pipes he has to fix plus sundry other jobs like ours - if only he could get to them!!
Chris.
15 hours without anyone making a comment? I know many (if not most) listees are 'catching up' on things after the 'holidaze' , but is anyone out there?
Merrill
