I have no idea where I will be, but hopefully I can organise it so that I will be in Cape Town when you arrive. Unfortunately most of the OT items of interest are in Johannesburg or Pretoria, but we d have a few things that might interest you.
Plus the best wines in the world. And the best scenery.
As for malls, shopping etc, yeah. lots of them too.

Well, I have been transferred to the Cape Town office but will be covering sub-Saharan Africa, so basically I will be travelling once again to those places where missionaries and mercenaries holiday.

Hi Douglas
Sorry for my prolonged silence–have been busy with many things.
As far as I know, based on the cruise line itinerary, my ship, Tahitian Princess, will arrive in Cape Town at 7 am on Saturday, 17 October 2009, and it will stay in port overnight; passengers don't have to depart until 18 October. I'll probably be busy packing on the 17th but might take a short walk around the port area; I understand there's a huge mall there :-) I have booked an all day excursion from the ship on the 18th which should take me to all the far flung places on my list: Table Mountain, Cape Point, and Simon's Town among them. The cruise line information is a little vague on this; one place says it's offered on the 18th but it appears on the 'official' excursion list for only the 17th. So I probably won't know until I get on the ship and ask.
In any case, I disembark on the 18th, and spend three more full days in Cape Town, departing for London at 6:45 pm on 21 October. I'm staying at the Cape Diamond Hotel, Longmarket and Parliament Sts. (if you can comment on the hotel, I would appreciate it).
When and where we meet up is pretty much up to you based on your work schedule. If Sunday, 18 October is better for you, I can change my excursion to the 17th; otherwise, it's your call. Don't feel you have to move mountains–even lunch and a beer (or glass of wine) would be fine.
I will be leaving home on 11 September, and after that I will have little to no internet availability (I don't travel with one). I could call you on 17 October when I get ashore; give me a particular time if you like. I have an international cell phone but the number is in England so if you call me, you're charged for a call to England but it will reach me wherever I am. The number is 44-789-403-0114
One question: if my evil shopping twin overdoes it, can I pretty easily buy an inexpensive suitcase to pack with goodies; or are there offices of FedEx or UPS and places that will pack up stuff to ship??
Another question: is there any little thing I can bring for you besides a list button??
Looking forward to meeting you in Cape Town...
Karen
