Sad indeed, but let's see the bright side: a new chance to make a good, revised Jenny restoration book! SOMETHING LIKE THE ALBATROS PLEASE!

Subject: [WWI] NASM Jenny - sad news
The NASM Curtiss JN-4 Jenny, which went on display as part of the “America By Air” gallery when the Air Transportation Hall was renovated two years ago is being removed. Since it has been on display, nasty lil buggers have tossed things at the aircraft, which has made holes in the fabric.
This in spite of barrier walls placed to prevent this. So it will be removed soon, taken back to the Garber Facility for repair, and then placed on display at the Udvar-Hazy Center, likely in a position where no one can hurt it, but that will likely mean it won’t be too close for inspection.
There are natural rips and tears in the fabric as a result of aging doped fabric shrinking over time, but some damage is vandalism.
The Douglas M-2 Mailplane will likely take the Jenny’s place.
Frankly if I had seen someone doing this, they may not have lived to be escorted out the door…
It was nice to walk done the great hall and see the Jenny at the edge of the exhibit area appearing to have just taken off. Sigh…
