Ants need to knock off every few seconds to scout for food, so while
you may be able to train them to start the task, completion is another
matter completely

I justdrill the hole andthen  hold the end in place with a drop of
superglue (CA).  You only need enough tension on the line to get it
stright and CA is plenty strong enough to hold this. The harder part
is simultaneously mainaining the tension and the alignment at the
control horn end. This needs a minimum of three hands
