This one photograph, not of 4395, appears to be cdl all over.

Subject: [WWI] BE2c colors
Good morning folks,
I'm about to dive into Roden's BE2c kit. The box cover subject caught my eye, having a rather unusual finish. I'm confused about the colors, though. Roden's instructions would have me paint all upper surfaces and fuselage "brown" with cdl under surfaces and a black cowling. The Datafile photo on page 12 shows 4395 operating in Arabia and the color seems less brown and more cdl overall. The lack of white in the roundel also leads me to believe that it may be cdl. To confuse matters even more, I had read some time ago that early RFC cdl aircraft operating in the Middle East and India were given a brown mottle treatment much like A/H aircraft. Any thoughts?
Bud
