Eric, the Americals booklet (which is usually very acurate) also states "blue cowl" -for S 445. The photo of this plane in the Osprey book doesn't show the cowling. The profile depicts this plane with the cowling in camouflage.
Fonck was also photographed with S 452. Looking at the photo in the Osprey book, that cowling looks like it is still in factory camouflage.
The blue cowling was said to be one of Fonck's personal markings, like the red star.

Subject: [WWI] Fonck SPAD XII
Hello,
Still working on my 1/72 Pegasus SPAD XII of Rene Fonck, I have a question. Some source states that the cowl was blue and some other, as on Bob Pearson's CD and the volume 1 of "Great war Classics in profile".
What is your opinion on this subject ?
It is not a "Voss cowl" subject ;-)
I am still looking for decals, mainly the upper wing star and number VI.
All the very best,
Eric
