I seem to remember having read somewhere (Datafile Special for Pup or 
The Pup File by AirBritain being the most probable sources) that a high 
ranking Air Ministry or RFC (or somesuch) official had exclamated: "My 
God! Your plane has got a pup! Referring of course to the 1 1/2 
Strutter. Which, incidentally, is an unofficial nickname, too, as is 
Camel, originally.
