Thanks Buz. Sounds like it's definitely worth a look. I wish Der Rote Baron would get released this side of the pond. Unfortunately a large chunk of it is now on U-Tube. In spite of the lousy picture and sound quality a lot of people will forgo buying if they can watch it for free. I will purchase it, when I get the chance, for no other reason than to encourage the movie makers to do more OT stuff. I hope to see CG epics about Jutland and OT tank actions one of these days. I'm sure that if Peter Jackson finds out I bought a DVD copy of the Red Baron he'll be chuffed enough to get right to work on that Blue Max re-make. : )

  Brad,

Yes, I got the DVD sometime last fall. I liked this movie. You could say it is the French version of the BLUE MAX. The flying scenes are good. The French flying scenes are with a Bleriot XI, Morane-Saulnier (G or H), Morane-Saulnier A1, Morane-Saulnier P and (I'm guessing) Stampes as S.E.5's. No Nieuports (Sorry, Matt). There is a SPAD XIII in the film, but no flying scenes of it. The Germans fly Fokker Dr.1 (of course) and what looks like an Albatros C.1.
I believe this movie was made in 1992 and was released to DVD in 2008. The movie is in French with subtitles, but it is not hard to follow. This is a "dark" movie and I thought the acting was good. I mentioned this movie on the list last year after I have purchased the DVD and watched it. If you have the opportunity to get the DVD my suggestion is to do it!
