[WWI] "Scale Effect"

Just to get back your the original question Mike; I think one of the best references that I've ever seen on Scale Colour (Color) Theory is to be found on pages 58,59 and 60, with paint chip examples on page 111 of their Model Master Colors in Model Master's "Modeler's Technical Guide". Some days I subscribe to the theory and some days; especially after one of our group discussions, I don't. Obviously Testors is trying to sell paints and here's a scary thought maybe our individual AMS varies on a daily basis too depending on our economic situation, local retail paint prices, time of day, how many paint pots we have on the shelf and the amount of sun or artificial light we are currently receiving. In other words is it history or art we are trying to achieve? If our historical sources (actual unaged colour chips) can't help us then we are left with creating art and I think we should all be somewhat guided by Robert Karr's thoughts, since he at least is a professional artist. To paraphrase our latest sage "if what you are doing makes you happy, keep doing it".
On a slightly different note does anyone out there have some 1/72 and 1/48 scale Americal Gryphon decals of Gotha Lozenge that could compare them and then tell us if Dr. Merrill believed in the Scale Colour Theory? Current Holy Grail prices on eBay are making me wish I'd invested in some before the good doctor departed.
