I'm a big fan of 70% ethyl alcohol with Tamiya. Ethyl doesn't have
the flowery smell of iso. Just a personal preference. I too have
heard of other solvents being used with good effect, but kinda
overrides my reason to go to acrylics. I'm trying to reduce spraying
harsh chemicals in the house, even with a vented spray booth.
Polly Scale, don't know the 'best', water seems to work okay.
Testors acrylics, tried them once. I wasn't happy with them for
reasons that escape me now, so I threw them out.
Misterkit, haven't found a good thinner yet, water does work, need to
try future.
Vallejo, never tried them.

Not the goal but the game.
In the deed the glory.
