accurate measurements could be made and
compared with accurate 1:1 dimensions,
even these turnbuckles are
over-scale. The art of it is that they
really don't appear to be oversize
and fit right in to the overall
impression that this is a "miniature" as
opposed to a painted model.

Yes. Some things look wrong unless
scale thickness - gross measurements
like tyre size and wing dimensions, but
the details become more a matter of
suggestion. Woodgrain, for example
(which has been said many times here by
others, but I'm in pedantic mode so I'll
repeat it). At the size of a 1/48th
model you'd need to have your nose
against it to see grain, but if you
don't do something the model just looks
like brown painted plastic. Your mind
knows that your looking at something
too small to transport a decent sized
shrew, but you have to fool it into
thinking it's looking at a large machine
from a distance.
So long as we don't start talking
sculpture.......
