Yep, all the struts are flattened brass rod.

Andy,
Did you replace the struts? Revell's are to thick and I figure replacing
them would be easier than trying to thin them. Great looking model of
Revell's D.VII.

I noticed some of the things you mention Tom and also that Roden's fuselage
is too deep, though the drawings I used were from the original datafile.
When I added up the pros & cons of each kit I decided I liked the shape of
Revell's better. On mine I made an entirely new horizontal stab rather than
try and correct the rather crude kit one. The aileron tips I simply
re-shaped by sanding. Some pics attached.

A bit quiet here today.
I am building Roden 1/72 Fokker D.VII kit #029 and Revell's D.VII with
Roseplane's nose. I noticed that when I compared each model against the
scale drawings in Fokker anthology 2 that Roden's fuselage was a to long by
a noticeable amount and that Revell's was a bit short. Also Revell's D.VII
horizontal stabilizer was a bit long chord wise at the fuselage requiring it
to be trimmed back and therefore correcting the angle at the leading edge.
The Revell also has a correction needed to be done at the outer end of the
ailerons. And everyone knows about Roden's D.VII's axle wing being to short
in span. Has anyone else ever checked these two against scale drawings and
noticed the same things? In the build I have cut notches in the wing and
ailerons and added hinges. I have also put stacking pads on the wings by
drilling a hole gluing in a small piece of stretched sprue and then heating
it until mushroomed back against the wing. I am adding details into the
cockpit, some scratch and some from Tom's Modelwork's German cockpit
interiors and his German gun set. I have also put lozenge decals on the
inside of the cockpit walls. I put them on reversed for a subdued lozenge
effect. I also put in a plastic piece with lozenge decal on it behind the
seat to represent the fabric attached to the frame to close of the rest of
the fuselage behind the cockpit. On the Roden kit I have removed the upper
engine covers to more expose the engine. I am adding spark plug wires. to
the engine. Any suggestions on anything else I can do or do differently?
