This was a strange experience.....
I was at my shop in Burlingame two weeks ago, outside talking to my wife on the phone when the Red Baron went by. I'm talking about the hot rod designed by Tom Daniels and sold as a Monogram kit with a model Fokker included (now available again).
It was on a trailer, and I could only see it for a split second but it was unmistakable.
Doing a little research, I found out the model kit came first (1968) and then a full-size car was built by Chuck Miller, which had a Pontiac six-cylinder. I saw photos of another full-size car built by Jay Orburg that was powered by a V-8 engine. The model had a "Mercedes 1914 aircraft engine" which was much smaller than the car scale of 1/24 for obvious reasons, and was difficult to replicate in real life, also for obvious reasons. Also, no one had the facilities to chrome plate the huge helmet "roof", so it was painted silver.
So does anyone here know which car I saw, and what it was doing in Burlingame?
