[WWI] bamboo for struts

  For those of you who have used bamboo for struts do you stain them and if so with what? If not what do you use for a finish on them?

  I've used tinted Future, well thinned acrylic paint, regular wood stain and just to see how it did, I marked up the struts dry with watercolor pencil and then painted with clear Future. All worked well, (I liked the resuts). To finish, I have used Future, Gloss Coat, or Minwax Polycrylic. Again all of the above filled grain and made them nice and shiny.
