[WWI] bamboo for struts

The only time I used them, I found that thinned Tamiya clear colors worked well -- a mix of about 4 parts yellow, 2 parts green and one red gives a reasonable 'stain and varnish' effect, though worth experimenting with. Bamboo is such an interesting material. It does not seem to warp when dampened.

I used the wood from bamboo skewers. I was afraid when I started that it was too 'stringy' and would not hold together, but inside the outer layer that was so easy to peel off fibers was solid wood.

For those of you who have used bamboo for struts do you stain them and if so with what? If not what do you use for a finish on them?
