[WWI] Spelling

Um... Isn't aluminum an element? Therefore can't be invented.

Yes it is and no it can't. But it can be identified and named.

(We colonials "invented" aluminum--we get to set its spelling!)

Davy was a Brit. So we get to set its spelling. According to Wiki (thank you for the reference, Rob and, yes, I hear you Ern) even Webster's agreed with the Brit spelling until less than 100 years ago.

Then someone sends out a flyer with a spelling mistake and we wind up with a shades of Shane situation.

Not that it really matters. We are quite tolerant, heartened, even, by the efforts of those from the Colonies who attempt to emulate their betters!
