<<The datafile has a particuarly nice moose on the cover.>>
That's gotta be a first for a Datafile cover
<<Windsock is terrific, Lance Krieg has a new article series about modelling
with input from lots of listees and ex-listees.>>
A bunch of photos of folks' work areas. Some are disgustingly well
organized- I suspect some straightening up was done before photographing.
<<Finally, I'd like to know why Eduards and Rodens new Spads only got
4-stars? >>
The Spad has some of the best detailing I've ever seen. It may seem extreme
to add the stitching on the flying surfaces, but it's a "textural" thing.
The aggregate effect of all these tiny knots adds to the way light reflects
from the overall wing- very realistic, althought this might be a better
thing for British wings. Spad wings were pretty slick.
I don't particularly like the way the fuselage was made from three pieces-
sides and a top that includes the horizontal stab. My first thought was "OH
Boy! I don't have to worry about the alignment- it's molded in!" Well, maybe
in a piece that wasn't warped. I had to cut the rear off that top piece so I
could force the horizontal stab to be horizontal.
A lesser issue is the way the cockpit floor is a solid piece with the rudder
bar molded in. The old DML had a separate bar and was much more Spadish.
BUT- as so often- stuff like this is so deeply buried in the bowels of the
'pit that it ain't that big a deal.
And the back cover is completely covered in Canuck profiles by some Pearson
guy, perfectly complimenting the Ronny Barr Datafile profiles.
RK.......altering a dog for the Spad base. I hate metal dogs.
