I've seen postage quotes on eBay US for a single car kit to the UK from $20.00, which I don't think is unreasonable, to $130.00 which is beyond ludicrous.

Even though I would say that when buying internationally, the postage rates do make a difference, it comes down to wether you want the package sent quickly and with insurance and tracking (then costs are LARGE) , or wether you are happy to wait for a few weeks for an untracked and uninsured package to casually amble it's way through the postal system to your door. I am. And regularly do.

The shipping can be anything from $30 + for priority tracked International or just $10 untracked U.S.P.S. 1st class mail. I always have gone for the cheap options if offered and only once has a package failed to come through to the U.K. Luckily it was small and fairly low value item. I think some sellers whack a huge shipping rate to deter International buyers, while at the same time they know that if someone does bid on their item with those massive shipping costs then they really want it and will probably be happy to pay. No doubt making the seller a few sheckells on the postage. At the end of the day it's that old chestnut '' you pays yer money.....'' strangely enough model kits do seem to have a higher proportion of exhorbitant shipping charges. Perhaps that is the seller knowing the psychology of the 'kit collector' who simply must have that 1/83rd impossibuild vac of the Naglo octuplane to complete his set. It's a strange world.
