Actually, true cost postage from the US is not that pricey.  Since the postage rate rises a couple of years ago, a vacu kit need not cost more than $8.80 to Europe.  A standard sized "Airfix/Roden" kit properly packed and protected will go for $10.40 and larger kits will easily be covered by the $12.60 rate.

Unfortunately, some e-Bay sellers want to make their money on p&p and quote sums like $36 for a Roden 1/72 Fokker D.Vll.

French postal charges are quite expensive, so to get something small from the US at not much more than it would have cost internally, is quite acceptable.

And, I believe, the US has special reduced rates for Canada and Mexico.
