hello list-friends,
very long time in lurk mode here, but just chiming in to say there may be
another way to use technology to get the reprints you want.
there are several sites like www.thepoint.com that allow anyone to create a
conditional commitment campaign. you could find out from albatros how many
advance-paid orders they'd have to have to make it worth their while to
reprint a title. let's say for example they need 500 orders to cover
reprint and inventory costs.
you set up a campaign soliciting 500 orders, and spread the word--ray and
albatros will almost certainly be delighted to help you tell the world.
anyone who wants one submits their order at your campaign site. the nice
thing is, although they submit their billing info, they only ever get
charged if and when 500 orders are reached. that way no one's out any money
until they're assured of getting what they want, and albatros isn't taking
any risk until they're assured of having enough orders to make it worth
their while.
this can also work nicely for getting kits re-issued.
dame karen, i tried the pitbull approach for securing my library. now i
can't get near it! but rob's question is a very good one. once a publisher
prints a hard copy, there is *nothing* they can do to keep someone from
scanning it. at least with digital copies, one can take some measures.
*****
on other matters, i miss you guys (and gals)! in addition to a great topic,
this list is one of the best examples of online community i've had the
pleasure of experiencing. i hope real life will stop interfering so much
with my wwi modeling time soon!
cheers,
iban.
