[WWI] Machine gun color question.

The guys who have been to the museums recently may have it better, but the pictures I've seen of  preserved Spandaus, color and B&W, all seem to be black,  low gloss, nearly   flat.

Hi all - please, please forgive the newbie question I am about to put out to you all but I don't have a lot of knowledge on this topic. 

What color would most likely be correct for the machine guns on a Fokker Dr.I?  Straight black, gun metal, or maybe black with some blue mixed in?  Satin finish or glossy?
