I used photoshop, and a graphics artist friend!

Yes the laser printer worked well for me. I've used Tango-papa decals
(google them!) and they are terrific.
Apply

On the blueish German lozenge grey would work better, but this Austrian
sworl is so brown and dull, that the white undercoat improved it no end.
