Hi Rob;
I think research is vital for the Flashback kit -and any kit, really. There were so many variations of the Voisin III, that you should identify a specific aircraft to model. The Farre paintings were the closest to a photo of this plane I found, but they definitely show this as the 'S' (Salmson powered) model. This is what the kit represents.
If I were doing this kit again, I would reshape the nacelle to look more like the French one. The one in the kit is an Italian design, as I recall, and is shaped slightly differently.
Comparing the model to the drawings in the Davila and Soltan book, I found some discrepancies. I'm not an expert on these planes, so maybe some models had differences from each other. The kit tail surfaces were very undersized to the drawings and the wings needed work also.
The kit has great PE parts, and that is a real plus. The wire bracing for the tail structure is etched in one piece with the booms, which is handy even though the wires are too thick looking. You could make them from brass rod and rig them and they would look better. I thought about that, but decided the kit parts weren't so bad.
Even with the thorough rigging instructions, I found myself constantly looking at photos to see the exact routing of control wires. They run all over the place and I hope I got those right. The rigging needs to be done in layers working from the inside out. Even then, it is tedious. The cross braces under the wings are an added headache. And there is rigging in odd places like across struts and from wheel centers. Even though I drilled at lot of holes early on, I still missed some.
The colors on the kit decals are too bright and they didn't fit the new tail parts anyway. Americals had the Fequant markings and I also used their roundels.
I guess the most important thing is to determine to spend a lot of time on this one because it will reward it. I hope this stuff helps you to get started on it.

These are all great builds... I love the Voisin 3 (I have this great kit but am scared of it).
Any chance Mr. Boye would offer some pointers on the construction of the Voisin 3? :-)
