Michael, looking at the track width it appears to be about the same as the
wing chord on the aircraft. 1m track width was common in Belgium on the
Vicinal network, but I think this track looks wider than that. The European
standard gauge is 4¹8 1/2².
There is this picture which shows a flat truck

which is supposedly taken at the mole.

Hei,

I can not find the German Naval Air Service book - so I have not seen the
photos.

There were special narrow gauge railroads that could be build very quickly
in WW1,
in German called "Feldbahnen"
See http://www.heeresfeldbahn.de/
http://www.feldbahn-ffm.de/Seiten/Loks/Dampf/dampf.htm

If you can find the locomotive there is it possible that I can help you with
a "walk-around",
having photographed a couple of such units in museums.

I do also have 1:10 drawings dating from 1917 of a 600mm aircraft transport
wagon/trolley
from the archives of the Norwegian Naval Air Arm - they had a lot of
ex-German equipment.

If standard gauge rail in use on the mole, then it it is likely that they
used Belgian rolling stock.

And to make it more complex - the best known Friedrichshafen 33 must be
"Wölfchen",
operating from the German raider "Wolf"

> Please turn to page 18 in your hymnals........er, ah, to photo #18 in
the Alex Imrie book, German Naval Air Service.

> There are many photos in the book showing the track and rail cars used
at Zeebrugge to move aircraft around. Photo 18 actually shows the
locomotive, albeit from quite a distance. Does anyone have, or know of a
source of photos of this loco, and perhaps even drawings of it and the rail
cars/dollies, used?

> The W.4 diorama is just about done, then back to the MoS that started
it all. 1/32 W.20/U-boot diorama project on hold until better references for
the U-Boot have been located. So, I am gatherng references now for a 1/48
Zeebrugge diorama featuring the railroad and a Friedrichshafen 33.

> I am sure I will catch hell from a retired Medico, from the True North
Strong and Free, for "not focusing", but some of us actually work for a
living and can't sit around all day playing with models, sipping rum, and
puffing on expensive cigars....we need to do research when we can...even if
it means having the Medico do the research for us!
