Just a head-up for those of you who haven't read The Good Soldier Švejk
by Jaroslav Hašek. It's about a Czech soldier in the Austro-Hungarian army
during WW1, and is hilarious. But also very political and shows what a
complete cock-up the Austrian-Hungarian empire was. I'm reading it again
and at the same time I'm reading Air aces of the Austrian-Hungarian empire
1914-18 by Martin O'Connor, also a terrific read. Reading Svejk at the same
time gives it a very interesting perspective, many of the pilots were
in the same situation as Svejk, flying for Austria but not really belonging,
and not officers so often discriminated.
