Hi John-
Welcome to the list from California!
I'm not sure of the answer to your question. I also have that book and the evidence seems pretty strong to me for the way it is depicted. Leaving the underside in silbergrau would be typical practice.
This is the best place to ask these kinds of questions, and I'm sure others will have more info.

G'day I'm new on this board. I
build mainly WW2 but have a keen
interest in WW1
I'm planning on building an Eduard 1/48 Pfalz DIIa in the colours of
Ltn Hans-Georg von der Marwitz. Jasta 30 shown and quoted in Ospreys
Pfalz Aces of WW1 as a wine red or
burgundy upper suface colour and presumably silbergrau u/s.
There is also a photo showing this a/c in the book in b/w showing a
dark uppersurface.
I've seen other models in the "standard" scheme of silver grey but this
wine red scheme has taken my fancy.
Is this a correct depiction? . No less than Alex Imrie amongst others
has quoted this as the colour. As well the Osprey book has a plan view
of this aircraft showing the orange diamond on the horizontal tail but
states this feature as speculative?.
Is there any other info or confirmation on the web. A google hasnt
revealed much on this, but I do recall an article on a model build in
this scheme.
I will also be painting the interior in a light gray with diagonal
lines of some description denoting the ply construction.
Thanks in advance. John H.
