Rember when you repaint them, paint added weight. I often wonder how much faster the "Flying Circus" would have been had they not gone gaudy, of course the pilot's plane had to be identified from the ground for a pilot to get credit for a kill, Where as an allied pilot had to merely get ground confirmation that an enemy plane went down near where he claimed. goaw
