In North America it's Liriodendron tulipifera - it often produces a
white to cream sapwood but heartwood with a red-orange grain sometimes
tending to purplish black. The Brazilian variety seems much more
fiery, with a pronounced grain' Tulipwood's colour depends on what
sort of nutrients are in the soil where the tree gorws
There' s a famous Hispano car raced by Andre Dubonnet which has a
tulipwood body built by Nieuport - it's a very seriously orange
colour without a lot of grain visible except at very close quarters.
It might be a good effect to copy for your flying machines
