Hi Jim and Others,

Thanks for the interest and comments. To answer your questions; the scoop was used to inflate the envelope using the airscrew. The control cables come out of the tail of the fuselage and were controled by a wheel column in the rear cockpit. To find out more you can GOOGLE "Submarine Scout" and get the Airship Heritage Trust which has a nice little history of the blimps. I screwed up on the title page; it should read, Submarine Scout S.S.14.A not 42. I must have gotten mixed up with "the answer" from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe which is "42!"

  Cheers,

  Joel

Fascinating ! I never heard of any such thing. At first I thought it was a blimp carrying a parasite plane like in W.W.II.

What is the large tube protruding downward at an angle from the gas bag, cabled to the plane?

How did they run the control cables to the elevator?

Good job.

Jim
