[WWI] H-B W.20 and its mother U-Boat

Michael, I agree that the U-boat would have to be one of the large U-cruisers (like U-139) to carry aircraft. The smaller boats like U-35 would be out of the question.
The U-cruisers were underwater freighters, spending most of the time on the surface, then submerging to run the Allied blockade. Aircraft protection would have been useful to them while surfaced.
I would recommend getting a copy of "U-boats of the Kaiser's Navy" by Osprey (New Vanguard 50). It is not expensive and gives a basic overview of U-boat types and history. It has some photos of U-cruisers, but probably not of the quality you would need to build a model deck from.

                                     J.R. Boye

michael,

search for the late war u-boat cruisers, especially u 139 "kapitaenleutnant
schwieger" and u 140 "kapitaenleutnant weddigen". these may come closest to
the proposed but never built vessels to carry the w.20.

cheers, michael
