Sad to know about that.
Having worked as a helper for an aviation art painter, I became involved in the making of two paintings to be given to the NASM as gifts for the anniversary of the Wright brothers first flight in 2003. That job was requested by the Argentine air force, and they asked for one big painting featuring Wilbur, Orville and the "Flyer". The other one had to be a gift for Don Lopez, so we received a copy of "Into the Teeth of the Tiger" to get ideas. After reading it, the painter choose the head to head air collition between Lopez´s P-40 and a Japanese fighter over China in WW II as the most stricking (no pun intended) scene.
It´s nice to have tributed that gentleman, specially as I am a P-40 fan.
