Hi Rob,
Not sure if anyone answered your question yet, I just got home so am responding late... Definately not a rumor, the left side of Goering's white D.VII had the cockpit cut down slightly and the leather padding was removed, also a hand hold was added to the fuselage right below the cutout. Also a small metal plate was added next to the spandau gun on the left side. The right side was not cut down but appears to have this same plate and a flare gun. There are good photos of this and his previous D.VII which had these same features in von Richthofen's Flying Circus by Greg Van Wyngarden & Ray Rimell.

Hi,

I've asked this in another place, and thought I'd bring it up here, too.

Eduard are bringing out a Weekend edition of the D.VII later this year,
with one marking option; Goering's white 5125/18.

Although they don't like the pilot, it seems to be the easiest marking
option for a weekend edition kit, is what they say.

I had always heard that the particular aircraft came from the factory
especially for him in all white and that there was a cut out on the left
side of the cockpit to allow him easier access, on account of his arthritis.

Also, any opinions as to whether it would've been white painted over the
standard factory finish of streaks(?) and lozenge, or covered in special
white doped fabric?

The photo on Wikipedia clearly show no cut out and all the profiles I've
seen show a similar, standard cockpit.

Has anyone heard this "rumour" and know anything as to the truth in it?

TIA
