[WWI] Rickenbacher's planes in 1/48 scale

I bought this bust last year.  It was part of a dml kit which I don't have.  Right now, I was wondering which aircraft I could model in 1/48 scale to go with the bust??? I would like to build a plane and put the bust on the base right next to the plane.   I would like to know if I have to buy the dml kit or is there another plane I could build instead of the spad???  I read somewhere that he flew a nieuport 28 but I'm not sure. Anyway if you have any recommendation of kits + decals combination I could use to display my bust, let me know.  I prefer 1/48 scale.  Thanks  Clarence
