[WWI] Kids and kits: when it becomes OT

I got my son building at about the same age. "Notox" was available then and we tried it. It just didn't work because it did not chemically dissolve styrene and this led to frustration for both of us.
The liquid cement I thought was too fume-y and to easy to spill, so we ended up using tube cement. This is pretty mild, and the gel was manageable for him. We read the warnings together and discussed safety precautions.
The Testors line was kid-friendly, except their beginner brushes were useless. Don't let even a kid use those. Get them a decent brush and teach them how to care for it.
Like anything, your attitude in teaching makes the difference. In scouts, we teach safe handling of saws, axes, knives, matches, rifles and camp stoves (the last is by fare the most dangerous). These are all useful tools that young people can be taught to respect and use safely.
Personally, I think that letting a kid drive a car at age 16 is a far worse hazard than anything the model hobby can present.

Hi,

I want to get my son building kits with me. He's five and I've had him
doing some painting already. Will get him on the airbrush as soon as it
gets cool enough in my garage.

Is there a kid friendly glue that I could get for him?

I don' want him CA gluing bits and pieces to himself, or himself to his
workbench!
