There were several distinguished RE-8 crews and squadrons during WWI, some of them having shot down important German fighter aces. British two seaters were a bloody matter to cope with.I have read an Over the Front article on RE-8 squadrons. There was a Canadian RE-8 observer who later designed the famed DUKW amphibian army vahicle used in WWII. Ivan
