Michael,

I appreciate the update concerning AMERCAL/GRYPHON. I wish Dr. Merill well; however, I am
sadden that Glen Merill closed his business on a bitter note if the stories are true. Like others have said
on this website, I find it hard to believe that one would punish his many grateful customers because of a
few (maybe not so few) ingrates. I enjoyed doing business with Glen Merill and I liked his products.
His offerings will be a tough act to follow in case someone tries to step up to plate. I guess I am more
flabbergasted that all his decals and historical content have just gone up in smoke and the legacy is all
but gone forever.

Remaining decal stock was destroyedJanuary 13 2008, 6:13 PM

John Burns of KCC/CVG fame was sent a copy of each decal sheet issued by Americal/Gryphon.
He sold me the remains of this collection after it had been cherry picked (but it still contained over
2/3 of the sheets issued). Along with the decals, he also included the letters from Glen Merrill.
Mention was made of "The Burn", and when I asked John whether or not this referred to the
destruction of the remaining decal stock, he replied that it was in fact Glen's intention
to do so, and that he believed it had already been done. Without going into detail
I can say that Glen and his wife were both in deteriorating health (he nearly died in 2005)
and he had more pressing demands than supplying the modeling community with decals.
It's also apparent from his letters that he was exasperated with many of his "customers" and their
critical, demanding, and often arrogant attitude. There are some real ingrates out there, and he
just decided he was through dealing with them. Hence, the bonfire.
