[WWI] simulating plywood

With all respect for Nigel, in fact I hate him, I must present another
view.
Talking to Peter Plattner and looking at his models, I became even more
converted
to real wood. The thing about using real wood in 1/72 scale is that the
grain
is so totally overscale that it simulates the pattern instead, so the
trick is to
ignore the grain, and enjoy the beauty of real wood instead. The
advantages of
real wood are colour and lustre, it just looks right. I'll even admit
that the grain/pattern
thing isn't totally correct, but it's worth it for the sake of getting
the colour right.
Nigels a master painter, I'm not I prefer building, so real wood suits
me for that
reason too, it's actually more fun mucking about with bits of wood than
plastic even.

I think we have another case of different methods giving good results,
I've seen
wonderful painted wood simulations, and also Peters fantastic woodwork,
there's room
for both.

By the way, Happy New Year to all!
/Neil
