[WWI] inkjet decals question

Hi all,
I have quite a few sheets of decal paper that I bought for my ALPS printer before it died.  I tried using them in my Epson inkjet printer but the ink beaded up on the surface and did not dry.  Does anyone know if there is a coating that can be sprayed on the sheets to get the ink to adhere properly? I noticed in Alan's E.III messages that he used hairspray and some other ink stuff to make the ink stick to the base stock. Any idea if this would work on decal paper and allow the ink to print well on this stuff?
