Dave, thanks for the reminder.. I'm sorry I didn't get back sooner. Your e-mail got me to get up and find my references.
I like the image a lot, and the style is just right.
Besides the photo that you have, I have a line drawing from a Spad book ( I tried to send this to you, but it bounced back )
The drawing is not an exact match to the marking in the photo, but it agrees generally. I shows four tail feathers, longest at the top, and larger, diamond-shaped webbed feet. It also shows an eye, which I think I see in the photo.
I'll try to scan just the drawing separately and send that- it would probably get to you without the photo. I'll try this on this weekend.
Thanks for your patience with me.
J.R.

Hi J.R.
Nothing to do with this trail, but did you
received my recent off list e-mails recently, including some artwork for
Bullards Ni 24 which I wanted your opinion of before proceeding?
Regards
Dave

Hmmm, Marc, it looks like YM (Yankee
Modelworks, not Young Miss) has posted a new photo on their site.
Now the lower hull is all black. This agrees with the Osprey book, but
contradicts both of the possibilities on their own instruction sheet.
I think I am leaning toward going along with the black hull now.... I
could always undo it in the future if any intact WWI U-boats are brought to the
surface or a color photo of one in drydock turns up.
The photo shows a definite dark waterline at least, and a
black hull would be in keeping with the fact of black hulls being typical on
early war, smaller German craft.

JR asked:
<<I see you went with the red hull on your model. Do you remember why
you went with that?>>
JR:
I painted it to match the model built by the manufacturer:
http://www.yankeemodelworks.com/35063_u35.htm
The red is much darker on my monitor. Probably should have used Tamiya
Hull Red.
