A true butt joint to the outer surface will work fine. The only 
advantage of piercing the side is incidence alignment. I briefly 
forgot you had a laser, and would recommend notching the fuse just 
enough to locate tabs on the wing root. Any portion of the wing 
protruding through the fuse is just dead weight if the wings are not 
tied together, so there is no compelling reason in my mind to carry 
through. A well placed mounting plate for the brick should carry any 
compression loads across the fuselage.

As long as you glue the rigging at the wings it should be plenty 
strong. Consider that if you load it to 8G evenly, each attach point 
only has to survive a bit over a half ounce pull.
