Roden's package for review showed up yesterday, which includes all three
engines (and the latest 1/48th Junkers D.I release).
I've said it many times before and I'll say it again.
You Toe Scalers are spoiled!! These engines are NICE! While I so far
only opened up the Gnome, it's the other two that are going to be
complete stunners. With the Gnome you do get photoetch - created by one
of the best photoetch creators on the planet (probably second only to
Fotocut <brown-nose moment off> ;-) ) - Eduard. No worries about
"nickel" or anything like that, this is true brass, baby! With the
Gnome you get the tops of the engines (push rods? not sure what they
are), a plate for the front of the engine, and a cool nameplate to
attach to the stand. I believe you can put the engine in the stand in
such a way it will rotate.
The Gnome is the "easiest" as there are not too many parts. However,
the Hisso and the Mercedes has a ton of parts - the Hisso probably the
most. Not sure if they have photoetch or not as I haven't opened them
up yet.
I will at least to a First Look on the Gnome for tomorrow. Can't
guarantee the rest as I've been really lazy this month (not to mention
having the holidays around) and haven't started *any work* on the
January IM. I haven't even finished the one model I've been working on,
and it only needs two more decals on the prop and a new windscreen made
<sigh>.
