Dennis,
This is what Baracca had to say, "You will see that on my aircraft I have taken the badge of my old Piemonte Reale Regimento. And the picture was taken on 10 April. Now we have our own new insignia, the griffon, a lion with a hawk's head, the symbol of boldness and ferocity."
I believe he retained that on the right side, and his personl "Cavallino Rampante" on the left side.
