Hi Rob and welcome to the asylum
To answewr the big question the span was smaller - a smaller chord
would be very noticeable. The F1 was 28 feet even while the 2F1 was
26'11"
The larger part of the difference was in the centre section which was
narrower and supported on steel struts in the Ship's Camel while the
landlubberly version had a wider centre section supported on wooden
struts...if you look at photos the area in front of the cockpit shows
some differences between the two types in the angels of the struts
and the ratio of empty space to wood and metal
As a first build, I'd suggest building what you've got unless you have
very sure hands and eyes - doing a conversion like this as first
build might lead to a lot of frustration when you come to add the
cabane struts from raw materials. I had a hard enough time with the
Blue Max 2F1 and I'd build more than a few models by the time that kit
was issued.

I have read that it was 13 inches narrower than the Sopwith F.1. Viewing N6812 from many angles, I cannot see that the wing is any smaller.
