Great report, Robert! Sounds like it was a perfect day indeed.
And if it weren't for the fact that you were riding in a beautiful airplane replica, I'd have wished you to burn to a crisp like those bloody huns!

Yeah, we've burdened my site with a little featurette about my rotarian adventures. Just a short writeup and a few more pics.
  If ya want, go to:

The links to the pics are on the bottom for the Strutter and Camel model. My head ain't that round in real life.
I'm deep into the second Camel now and I'm still aghast at what a mess this kit is. If anyone ever has a hankerin' for a large 1/8scale Camel, get this Hasegawa kit for the somewhat simplified engine, seat, cowl, tires, instrument panel parts, and maybe the prop and a smattering of the cast metal bits. The plastic guns are at best merely ok, not too terribly detailed and appearing a little anemic. Scratchbuild the rest. The wood and brass are horrible. The cut/punched wood parts are for the most part inaccurately shaped or grossly thick; the blank stock is waaaaay oversize. The brass is mostly too thick and/or bends up into something like was never seen on a Sopwith. Weirdest thing is a real Camel had close to a couple of hundred turnbuckles- the kit comes with a sprue of 20 oversize ones- and all for places where they actually weren't on the real thing. Plus in the two kits I've seen both sprues had short shots.
