Hi all,
I've been a list lurker for quite awhile, but since
noticing the interest in the new Roden 1/48 Junkers
D.I, I decided to post something. I just got my copy
of the kit Friday night and have already started it.
The interior looks nice , with the Mercedes
D.III(Sprue V, BTW listees what is the other engine
supplied on this sprue and what aircraft used it???)
as is supplied with their Fokker D.VII kit, the engioe
firewall bulkhead, a depiction of the wing structure
(center section framing) as is seen in the cockpit,
along with engine bearers that seem to work well.
Also there are three other bulkheads. The seat is a
two part affair where you have to bend the corrugated
back around the lip on the seat base (I didn't like
that too much, I would've liked a 1-piece seat better,
IHMO). The control stick consists of three pieces and
hopefully I will get them all in place this time (as
opposed to on the Fokker D.VII) rather then losing the
small control bits to the carpet monster via my
fumbling and those damn tweezers. The wings are nice,
though I don't have the DF, so I can't be sure if the
curvature ansd sweeping shaping of them is accurate.
BTW, the fuselage is built up almost the same as its
1/72 cousin in that there are 4 main FLAT components
to be assembled, though I think the bulkheads/frames
will aid in alignment, making it a much easier build.
The instructions color callouts show the interior
color as being aluminum, is this correct or is an
RLM02ish gray-green primer more accurate? Also, what
is the importance of the white/blue stripe behind the
cockpit on the boxart example? Does this denote a
postwar a/c? T
John
