You don't need to coat the decals. I put them in a small ziplock bag to keep
moisture out and have never had a problem with the decals deteriorating or
sticking to the window. It can take up to a month or more for the yellow to
fade, some won't fade at all. I've got a set taped to my window now that
have been there 4 months and there's no sign of the yellow going.
