  Hi All

Am recently returned from two weeks in Ukraine, plus two weeks in
Russia, sailing down the waterways from St. Petersburg to Rostov-on-
Don. Interesting trip, being one of only seven people having English
as their native language amongst 25 Russians, 25 or 30 French, and
100 or so Germans. In between all the churches, monasteries, left-
over statues of Lenin, and monuments to the Great Patriotic War (now
more commonly called World War II), I managed to stumble over a few
items of OT interest. At some point in the future, all the photos
from the trip will eventually appear on my website, but I thought
y'all might be interested in these few.
Seems that an early Russian aviator, Petr Nikolaevich Nesterov, was
born in Nizhny Novgorod and there is a rather weather-worn monument
to him in a park in the city. He was a fearless, some would say
reckless, flyer and designer of aircraft; he was killed when he fell
out of a Morane-Saulnier G after ramming it into a pesky German
Albatros on August 26, 1914--history's first Kamikaze pilot, perhaps.
Attached are two photos of the monument for your viewing pleasure,
and a second message will have two more photos.
