>Look who's talking about madness.<
I'm qualified : ) . Jim, the detailed explanation of the paintwotk is,
masking tape. It's quite easy on a D.III because of the slab-sides. Do those
first, then mark the centre lines and use very thin strips of tape to
maintain the widtch over the curved top and bottom. The pattern is a mirror
image, which I find easier than a barberpole. Masked with Tamuya tape over a
good gloss top coat of white, the Humbrol red paint only leaked through in 2
places. It needed more patching up from the beating it got while riggimg
(it's a very heavy model so needs a firm grip.)
Anyone who has one of these in the stash. If I'd spent time drilling ut and
replacing the strut fixings the model in the flesh would look much better,
however thick the struts. But at least the experience will pay off since I
got another of these kits as a prize from Windsock, just after my wife
bought this one as a birthday present.
BTW, the instructions are rather confused. They, and the some of the PE ,
suffer from confusiom with the D.V. The PE looks night but in practise many
of the parts are a bit crude. The substantial resin bits are extrememly
good, with the reservation that the Daimler radiator (there'es a different
one also) is a bit too thick for the wing. The molding quality was dreadful
on the one I built, but the one from Windsock is much, much better, and I
anticipate it'll take half the time to build (on a par with the Roden kit.).
